China Netcom Forgoes WiMAX Plan for Beijing Olympics

As a follow-up to an Asia Express dated May 25, China Netcom, one of the sponsors of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, recently announced that it will not build a WiMAX network for the event as originally planned. Instead, the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad has authorized China Mobile to take over the construction plan, whereby the company will deliver WiMAX and Wi-Fi services during the event.
